Rusty Knox is mayor of Davidson and is also a local musician

Aug. 30. The Town of Davidson is holding a community dinner on Sept, 22 at the historic Beaver Dam plantation house on Davidson-Concord Road. They’re serving BBQ, macaroni and cheese, baked beans, cookies and brownies.

“I am a firm believer in the fellowship of breaking bread together—it’s a great peace-maker and relationship builder,” said Mayor Rusty Knox.

This is the first community dinner post-COVID. Two previous ones were in the parking lot behind Summit, the second was at Roosevelt Wilson Park.

The goal is to meet somebody new, said Knox, a popular local musician.

There will be tables and chairs set up to accommodate 300 people as well as a tent in case of inclement weather.

It’s OK if more turn out, Knox said.

“More relationships are built and more problems are solved when you’re breaking bread,” said Knox, mayor since 2017.

There is limited parking on site at Beaver Dam, but attendees can use the public soccer parking lot at River Run as an overflow area. Residents are encouraged to walk and ride bikes.

The Town currently leases the property from Davidson College. The college takes over the property next year.
