Aug. 17. The Cornelius Parks & Recreation Department is excited for their annual Back-2-School Bash on Saturday, Aug.20, from 6-10 p.m., at Robbins Park, 17738 W. Catawba Ave. This free, family event will include a Gaga Ball Tournament and an outdoor movie, “Sing 2.”
The Gaga Ball Tournament will be from 6-8 p.m., and for boys and girls ages 7-12. The tournament is open to all skill levels, and the winner of each game will receive a prize.

The event will begin with a brief introduction to gaga ball for new players. The competitions are scheduled by age group:
- 6:15 pm – ages 7-8
- 6:45 pm – ages 9-10
- 7:15 pm – ages 11-12
The Back-2-School Bash will feature face painting, yard games, many crafts and activities, an inflatable water slide, and musical performances from Bach to Rock. Cool treats will be available for purchase throughout the evening, and Moana will also make a guest appearance from 6-8 pm.
At dusk, about 8:15 p.m., weather permitting, the movie “Sing 2” will be shown on a blimp screen, as part of the Outdoor Cinema Series, which has its last event this year on Oct. 29.
Attendees should remember to bring lawn chairs and/or blankets. Coolers and picnic baskets are welcome. No glass bottles or containers, no tobacco products, smoking, e-cigs or vaping and no pets.
