Aug. 10. LEARN Works, the afterschool education program at the Ada Jenkins Center for students one to three grade levels behind their peers, needs volunteers for the upcoming school year.

Volunteer tutors and classroom assistants would  work with the children.

LEARN Works is free and conducted after school throughout the academic year, providing elementary and middle school pupils with academic support and enrichment programming. Without developmental and supplemental instruction, these students most likely would continue to lag behind.

Teachers and administrators at CMS schools in Cornelius, Davidson and Huntersville refer their students to us, and CMS buses bring the schoolchildren to the Davidson or Huntersville campus. Teachers create individualized learning plans in reading and math.

LEARN Works’ classrooms at the Ada Jenkins Center are at their 60-student capacity, and the program has expanded to a second location in Huntersville that will  serve up to an additional 12 students during the 2022-2023 school year.

Volunteers are needed at both locations. Per CMS guidelines, volunteers must be at least 18 years old.
