June 23. The Latino Civic Engagement Committee (LCEC) will host the North Mecklenburg Candidates Forum at Lake Forest Church in Huntersville on Saturday, June 25.
The event, which will run from 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm, is non-partisan with Democrats and Republicans expected to participate.
Invitees will include candidates for the US Senate and the NC legislature as well as the Mecklenburg Board of Commissioners.
By the numbers
The event targets Davidson, Cornelius, and Huntersville where more than 3,000 Hispanics are eligible to vote, according to LCEC.
Organizations involved
Grassroots, state, and national organizations are involved in the initiative: Unity in Community-North Meck, the New North Carolina Project, the Hispanic Federation, the NALEO Educational Fund, the Camino Research Institute, the Latino Civic Engagement Project and Faith and Health Latino Coalition.
A test
“The Latino forum is a test for the candidate’s commitment to the Hispanic Community,” said Lennin Caro, a professor at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Caro will moderate the forum.
