Weekly agenda April 18-24: Music, art, a Woof Walk and more

Trying to figure out what to do? This calendar can point you to some of the best options in Lake Norman.

Here’s a look at what’s coming up:

April 18

Open Track Nights on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays

6-8 pm. James Hoyt Wilhelm Park’s 1/4-mile walking track will be lighted on Mondays and Bailey Road Park’s regulation track will be lighted on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Both open to the public.

2022 Lake Norman Big Band

Tickets are $25 per person. New Victory Lanes, 125 Morlake Drive, Mooresville.

Cardio Funk

6:30-7:30 pm Mondays. Drop in for this high-energy class at Bailey Road Recreation Center. $10 per class, pay at the door.

April 19

Davidson College Chorale: Renewal II: Brahms’ Requiem

Davidson College Chorale: Renewal II: Brahms’ Requiem

7:30 – 9 pm. Davidson College Chorale, Davidson Singers, and Choral Arts Society Davidson. Admission is free, but tickets are required. For tickets, please contact the Union Box Office at 704-894-2135.  Knobloch Campus Center DFPH-Duke Family Performance Hall, Davidson College.

Adult Open Gym Basketball 

6:30 to 9 p.m. Adults may drop in on Tuesdays for basketball at Bailey Road Recreation Center, 11536 Bailey Road, inside Bailey Middle School.  Ages 18 and older. Free.

Visiting McGee Professor Jennine Capo’ Crucet

7-8 pm. A reading by the the Miami-born author of three books.

April 20

Cigars on the terrace

7 pm. Sip, smoke and savor the satisfaction of craft cigars. $30 advanced tickets include choice of 2 craft cigars and first drink to pair with them. Royal Bliss Brewing. 7532 Royal Bliss Court, Denver.

April 21

Ladies Night Out

5-8 pm. A strolling shopping experience through Birkdale Village as you shop special retail deals, enter into giveaways and enjoy a night out.

Spring Piano Studio Recital

7:15 PM – 9 pm. Piano students from the studios of Cynthia Lawing and Will Fried take center stage for a program of solo and collaborative works. Admission is free, but tickets are required. Join the Lake Norman Bridge Center 

12:30-4pm Thursdays at Cornelius Town Hall, 21445 Catawba Ave., if you have an interest in learning the game of bridge or want to develop your playing, bidding, and defense skills. All ages and skill levels are welcome. $5 per day, pay at the door.

ReadDavidson

7 pm. Virtual panel discussing immigration, in conjunction with the adult fiction selection, Infinite Country by Patricia Engel. Click here for more information.

April 22

Davidson College Concert Series: Marcus Thompson, viola

Davidson College Concert Series: Marcus Thompson, viola

7 – 8:30 pm. Recital by violist, Marcus Thompson, viola faculty at the New England Conservatory, University Professor at MIT, Artistic Director of the Boston Chamber Music Society, and the first African American to be awarded at doctorate from the Juilliard School. Alex Nikolaidis Konstas ’22 Exhibition Presentation and Reception

4-6 pm. Opening reception with Alex Nikolaidis Konstas ’22. Artist’s talk will be presented in-person and via Zoom. To attend by Zoom please RSVP. A reception will follow the presentation. Visual Arts Center VAC-117 Semans Lecture Hall, Davidson College.

Gallery Crawl 

6-9 pm. Artists display their work in Davidson’s establishments on Main Street over to South Main Street and at the Circles @ 30. Galleries, businesses and town hall host visiting artists, including some that will be featured at Art on the Green April 23-24. Refreshments and music enhance the festivities.

April 23

Earth Day Fair Fun 

9 am – noon. Celebrate the 52nd anniversary of Earth Day by visiting the Davidson Earth Day Fair at the Davidson Farmers Market. The fair will feature a chef demo with locally grown food, games, activities, live music, giveaways, free native seedlings, and more.

Arts on the Green is one of several festivals this week.

Tawba Walk Arts & Music Festival

2-8 p.m. A Tawba Walk is a multidimensional, eclectic art crawl, which snakes through the heart of Cornelius, featuring dozens of local vendors, live street performances, shopping, amazing food and more, showcasing the best Cornelius and the surrounding areas have to offer.

Jazz Concert Series

5-8 pm. Grammy Winner Marlow Rosado, Latin jazz/salsa. Veterans Park at Main & Maxwell, 201 Huntersville-Concord Rd. Huntersville.

Regina Carter with the Jazz Ensemble

7:30-9 pm. Final jazz concert of the year features Regina Carter, a legendary jazz artist and the unparalleled icon of jazz violin. For tickets, call  the Union Box Office at 704-894-2135. Knobloch Campus Center DFPH-Duke Family Performance Hall, Davidson College.

Davidson Farmers Market

9 am- noon. 120 S. Main St., Davidson. Rain or shine, No pets please.

April 24

Cornelius Parks and Recreation is partnering with Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation to bring the first Woof Walk to Cornelius.

Woof Walk

10-11 a.m. Participants can expand their and their dog’s routine by walking approximately 1.5 miles of waterfront trails at Jetton Park. Event is free, but advance registration is required.

Art-on-the-Green 

Noon to 4 pm Sunday downtown Davidson.

WDAV Young Chamber Musicians Competition

3-5 pm. Four of the nation’s most talented young chamber ensembles compete in in the finals of WDAV Classical Public Radio’s annual Young Chamber Musicians Competition. Charity Cornhole Tournament

2-7 pm. $25 Registration fee goes towards the Zeta Tau Alpha charity providing breast cancer education and awareness. Primal Brewery. 16432 Old Statesville Rd, Huntersville
