March 11. “All in a day’s work” took on new meaning this week when a machete-wielding man took on a funeral procession. Sam James, founder of James Funeral Home in Huntersville, was in the third car back when sheriff’s deputies—who were part of the procession—jumped out and “pounced on him.” No one was hurt and new deputies came on the scene pronto.
“They were rockstars! We all sat and watched law enforcement react quickly and professionally,” said James, who began his career in the funeral service business at age 16 at the former Raymer Funeral Home in Huntersville. James started his own funeral home in 2010.
This was a first, he said.
