Dec. 7. By Dave Vieser. [Updated] Major changes are coming to the Heritage Plaza Center on North Main Street just south of the Davidson boundary. The exterior of the building is being totally renovated to include painting of the brick, black trim work and natural wood accents for an “updated, modern aesthetic.”

There will be an outdoor patio. Real estate brochures say the owners are looking for breweries, restaurants and a coffee shop.

—Mecklenburg County building permits indicate NY Butcher Shoppe will be a tenant. They carry a wide range of items from Angus Beef steaks and prepared chicken dishes to fresh seasonal vegetables, pastas, sauces and wines. They have 15 locations in the southeast with the closest in Dilworth.

—VANA, a popular South End restaurant in Charlotte, plans to move into the refurbished building as well. It will have 2000 square feet of space with an outdoor bar and patio, featuring creative cocktails and rustic cuisine. A focal point will be the wood-fired cooking.

—Learn Music will relocate within the building. In addition to a new lobby, Learn will have 13 classrooms and a private rehearsal space. They will also get a roll-up door providing access to a patio.

VANA translates in Sanskrit to “wooded area of the forest.”

Background

The 37,000 square foot property was erected in 1981. Today it has a tax value of $911,000 according to Mecklenburg County records and is owned by Rocky River Ops of Davidson. It’s renovation is the second such project at a retail strip center in town within the past year. Earlier this fall, the Town approved a rezoning for a strip center located on Highway 21 near Nannie Potts Lane. The owner is updating the exterior.
