All signs point to December opening for HomeTrust

Nov. 10. By Dave Vieser. All parties came out smiling after the Board of Adjustment hearing on exterior wall signs at HomeTrust Bank on West Catawba. The bank initially requested permission to display a fourth wall sign on their new building at the corner of West Catawba and One Norman.

However, at the hearing the bank agreed to forego the fourth sign and move one of the current signs to the east side instead.

The change was first suggested by planner David Barley speaking on behalf of the bank. The Planning Board, acting in its role as the town’s Board of Adjustment, agreed unanimously.

In their original variance application, the bank had stated that because of the position of the building, the existing southern side sign wouldn’t provide adequate signage for vehicles traveling east on Catawba—until they have passed the entrances. The negotiated change addressed this concern by moving the north-facing sign, to the east wall.

Opening soon

As for when residents can expect the bank to open, spokeswoman Sherri Hartsell said an exact opening date hasn’t been set but that bank officials are aiming for a grand opening in December. Home Trust will be joining over a dozen banks dividing up more than $1.35 billion of deposits in Cornelius.
