COVID-19 update Sept. 9: More than 15,000 deaths statewide

Sept. 9. There were 6,290 new cases of the coronavirus reported today by the NC Dept. of Health & Human Services. There were also 110 new deaths due to COVID-19, including one in Cornelius.

There have been a total of 15,004 deaths statewide due to the pandemic; including 27 in Cornelius. Most of the Cornelius deaths occurred at AutumnCare last year.

From Aug. 9 to Sept. 9, there have been 1,245 COVID deaths statewide.

Hospitalizations

Hospitalizations due to COVID-19 rose to 3,815 in today’s report, up from 3,790 yesterday. The previous high this year was set back in January—3,990 on Jan. 14 after the Christmas holiday surge.

ICU/ventilators

There are 919 adult ICU COVID-19 patients statewide. Out of 1,836 ventilators available, 1,659 are in use, according to NCDHHS data.

Testing

Positive tests fell to 11.3 percent statewide,

Mecklenburg

In Mecklenburg County, there were 593 new cases from Wednesday to today, and seven new COVID-related deaths. The county-wide positive test rate is 12.3 percent.

North Mecklenburg (change from Wednesday)

Cornelius: 11 new cases, 3,600 cumulative total, 27 deaths total.

Davidson: 6 new cases, 2,092 cumulative total, 15 deaths total.

Huntersville: 28 new cases, 7,789 cumulative total, 58 deaths total.
