Aug. 17. Praise in the Park, an outdoor festival with inspirational artists, a medical village, vendors, children’s activities and food, will be Sept. 18 in Smithville Park.
Back-to-school supplies will be distributed in the children’s village, according to organizer Tonya Rivens. There will also be a COVID testing and vaccine clinic, as well as law enforcement and other professionals who will speak to attendees.
The event is organized by the Ausie Rivens Community Center/Scholarship Foundation, recently renamed the Ausie & Martin Rivens Scholarship/Community Center, a 501c3 located in the Smithville neighborhood.
The mission is to empower area youth by providing life skills workshops, promoting education and providing educational and financial assistance for future employment skills and entrepreneurial success.
Proceeds from the event help fund scholarships.
