June 26. The morning after a boater went missing on Lake Norman, a fire on a boat at the fuel dock at Kings Point Marina left the stern of a mid-size cruiser burned to the waterline.

First responders on the scene of the fire said no one was seriously injured, but the boat was destroyed. It appeared that no other boats were involved.

About 9:30 this morning

The fire began around 9:30 am, according to bystander Scott Yearwood of Huntersville. He said the boat was soon engulfed in flames and black smoke.

There were at least a half dozen emergency vehicles on scene.

That was fortunate because soon after the boat fire, a fully loaded pontoon boat plowed into the back end of another pontoon boat. There were no injuries. First responders were on the scene immediately.

Back in November there was another boat fire at King’s Point.

Missing boater

The missing boater from last night was tubing. A this point it appears to be a drowning. The incident occurred between Bethel Church and Iredell County. According to  the Charlote Observer, the Cornelius Fire Department was leading the search, with help from the Huntersville, Sherrills Ford, Denver and Charlotte fire departments. The agencies were using sonar searches.
