Huge Juneteenth Festival in Plaza Midwood

June 9. The Juneteenth Festival of the Carolinas presents its 24th Annual Celebration featuring the Juneteenth Freedom March and a Tribute to Isaac Applewhite June 17-20 in Plaza Midwood. Multi-cultural vendors will showcase food, art, music and culturally relevant merchandise.

On Thursday, June 17 from 9 am to 5 pm, children can participate in the popular Cultural Camp every year at Elizabeth Traditional Elementary School near Independence Park. Children and youth, ages 5-17, will again engage in a true cultural experience including crafts, jewelry, tie dyeing and skits. (Bring a tee-shirt for the tie-dye class.)

On Friday, June 18, the opening ceremony will include the Drum Circle, which attracts drummers and dance enthusiasts of all ethnicities.

On Saturday and Sunday, June 19 and June 20, from noon until 10 pm, the festival will include the Juneteenth March, as well as prayer, history and education.

The Freedom March steps off Saturday at 10 am from Grady Cole Center, 310 N Kings Drive and finishes at Central and Thomas Avenue.

—Tribute to Isaac Applewhite, co-founder of the Juneteenth Festival of the Carolinas.

—Juneteenth Luncheon, 2 pm Saturday to honor local, state elected officials and community leaders

—A Healthcare Village staffed with health care professionals from local clinics and hospitals, nutritionists and fitness experts are on the premises.

—Children’s Village with entertaining and educational crafts, as well as a storyteller. There will be Jumps, Rides, Crafts, Lunch and Snacks.
