June 18. Davidson Mayor Rusty Knox will speak at the Juneteenth observation Saturday at the Ada Jenkins Center. The nationwide holiday celebrating the emancipation of African-Americans originated in Galveston, Texas in 1865 and has spread nationwide since then. The event, which runs from 11 am to 2 pm, includes music and entertainment as well as food trucks and children’s activities.
