OMB rendering: Brewery, beer garden and residences

April 15. By Dave Vieser. A public hearing before the Cornelius Planning Board concerning a major mixed-use project on the north end of Zion Avenue known as Greenway Gartens has been delayed to May 10 at the earliest according to town officials.

“The applicant requested that we move the project from the April 12 meeting to a future session,” said Cornelius Planning Director Aaron Tucker. “In addition, we do not yet have an approved Traffic Impact Analysis.”

OMB officials did not elaborate on the reason for requesting a delay. The traffic analysis will be a major factor in the town’s review of the project. The proposed Caroline project would be on 17 acres adjacent to Greenway Gartens.

Concerns have been raised by some residents concerning the manner in which the additional traffic that the project would create will be handled by the existing road network.

Olde Mecklenburg Brewery’s plan for the 24-acre site on North Zion Avenue includes 398 apartments, 50 townhomes, a brewery and a beer garden.
