March 12. The decline in the median number of new COVID cases over the past week (2,027) vs. the past month (2,643) is continuing in North Carolina. The new case volume is down 23.3 percent this past week compared to the past 31 days, based on coronavirus data from Johns Hopkins University.
The NC Dept. of Health & Human Services today reported 1,998 new cases of COVID-19 today, down from 2,061 yesterday.
Hospitalizations
Hospitalizations continue to fall: 1,037 statewide, down from 2,151 exactly one month ago.
Deaths
There were 41 new deaths statewide attributable to the coronavirus, for a total of 11,633 since the outbreak began in North Carolina a year ago.
Testing
The statewide positive test rate is at 3.7 percent in today’s report, down from 15-16 percent at the beginning of the year. The positive test rate in Mecklenburg is 4.6 percent—again under the goal of 5 percent.

In Mecklenburg County, the NCDHHS reported 217 new cases and four new deaths.
North Mecklenburg
Cornelius: 0 new cases, 2,568 cumulative; 23 deaths total.
Davidson: 4 new cases, 1,453 cumulative; 15 deaths total.
Huntersville: 9 new cases, 5,241 cumulative; 47 deaths total.
