Local voting detail: Strong showing for Trump, Tillis

Nov. 4. By Dave Yochum. The presidential race may still be up in the air nationwide, but that’s not the case in Cornelius. All four precincts went decisively for President Trump, more than two to one at 242/Jetton and almost two to one at 208/Bethel Presbyterian Church. Likewise, US Sen. Thom Tillis, who started his career in elected office on the Cornelius Town Board, won hands down in all four Cornelius precincts.

The former Peninsula resident took 242/Jetton 1,565 votes to 528 for Cal Cunningham.

Mecklenburg County went the other way: Biden and Cunningham bested their opponents.

It was a different story in 206 in the Town of Davidson. That precinct, which votes at Davidson Elementary just north of the Antiquity Bridge, went 2,280 for Joe Biden, 1,425 for Trump.

Nearer to River Run, Precinct 127/Hopewell Baptist went 1,796 for Trump, 1,499 for Biden.

In the US Senate Race, Davidson/206 went for Cunningham 2,083 to 1,524 for Tillis. In 127, Tillis came out on top, 1,947 to 1,266 for Cunningham.
