July 8. Cases of the coronavirus continue to increase in Mecklenburg County and North Carolina. Today’s daily report from the NC Dept. of Health & Human Services shows 1,435 new cases statewide for a total of 77,310 since the COVID-19 outbreak began here in March.
Based on Johns Hopkins University data, the median daily number of new daily cases since June 7 statewide is 1,411, while the past 7-day median is 1,465, narrower than two and three weeks ago.
The NCDHHS reports a record 994 COVID-19 hospitalizations statewide, up five from yesterday.
The total number of deaths statewide has reached 1,441, up 21 from yesterday and up 68 in the past week.
There have been 1.096 million tests administered. About 10 percent of tests have returned positive.
Mecklenburg County cases of the coronavirus reached 13,489, while similar-size Wake County reports 6,471 cases. Deaths in Mecklenburg rose four, to 158.
Mecklenburg’s 7-day running average of new cases accounts for almost 20 percent of the state-wide cases per day.
