NC COVID-19 hospitalizations increase 9.7%

May 13. Statewide hospitalizations due to COVID-19 jumped from 475 to 521 overnight, according to the NC Dept. of Health & Human Services. The 9.7 percent increase comes after a moderating trend statewide.

The past seven days of COVID-19 hospitalizations were:

Tuesday: 475
Monday: 464
Sunday: 442
Fri: 515
Thursday: 525
Wednesday last week: 516

Statewide, the DHHS reported 470 new cases, for a total of 15,816 COVID-19 deaths as of Wednesday at 11 am.

COVID-19 continues to strike adults of all ages, but how it hits seniors, African Americans and Hispanics is uneven. According to NCDHHS data, African Americans respresent 34 percent of all cases and 35 percent of call COVID-19 deaths.

Hispanics represent 28 percent of all COVID-19 cases, but only 5 percent of deaths.

The total deaths statewide reached 597, up 20 overnight.

In Mecklenburg

According to NCDHHS, Mecklenburg has seen a total of 2,204 coronavirus cases since mid-March.

NC health officials say 61 people with COVID-19 have died in Mecklenburg, according to NCDHHS figures.

The county added 56 new cases from Tuesday, the NCDHHS says.
