April 27. COVID-19 cases as of April 26 were up 10 percent to 1,471 from April 22 when there were 1,331 reported cases according to Mecklenburg County Public Health (MCPH). There have been 40 deaths.
Statewide, the numbers are climbing too. Then NC Dept. of Health & Human Services reports 9,142 COVID-19 cases in 95 out of 100 counties.
That’s up 13.5 percent from 8,052 reported on April 24.
The statewide death toll is 306, as per the state, up from 269 late last week.
On Friday Gov. Cooper announced NC public schools were closed for the rest of the school year. Johns Hopkins, meanwhile, is reporting nearly 1 million US cases.
Cornelius is one of several COVID-19 hotspots in Mecklenburg County. As of April 22, there were more than 45 but less than 60 positive cases in Cornelius. Neighboring Davidson has fewer than 21 cases.
It’s unclear how many COVID cases are at Autumn Care on Zion. The Mecklenburg County Health Department will only say there are more than two.
Atrium Health has transferred COVID patients to its Huntersville Oaks long-term care facility, but the Huntersville Zip Code, which represents nearly twice as many residents as Cornelius, has only 21 to 45 COVID cases, according to MCPH.
There are eight long-term care facilities actively experiencing outbreaks of COVID-19, based on the CDC definition of an outbreak which is more than two lab-confirmed cases.
