April 24. Mecklenburg County has shut down vehicle access to all county parks including popular destinations like Blythe Landing, Jetton Park and Ramsey Creek. Much to the chagrin of the town board, park parkers are parking instead on neighboring streets.
Parks have been crowded social gathering places since the county-wide stay-at-home order went into effect last month.
But Town of Cornelius parks are not closed to vehicles.
Here are a few with convenient, adjacent parking and scenic pathways. Our roundup includes some parks with relatively short trails, like Jetton Neighborhood Park. Do two or more laps to rack up mileage.
Antiquity Greenway: .6 miles (park on Zion)
Bailey Road Park: 3.51 miles (11536 Bailey)
Jetton Neighborhood Park: .4 miles (16000 Jetton Road)
Legion Park: .5 miles (on Church between Spring and Legion)
Robbins Park: 4.71 miles (17738 W. Catawba, but park on Robbins Crescent)
Torrence Chapel Park: .6 miles (21309 Torrence Chapel)
Practice social distance at any park you visit. Playgrounds and restrooms are closed, and basketball and tennis and pickleball courts are available for individual/singles play only.
Group games and activities and doubles matches are not allowed.
