Rev. Robert Lionel Morgan, 87, of Huntersville, husband of Avanelle Henderson Morgan, went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, April 29, 2015. He was born in Greenville, SC, on November 23, 1928, to the late Robert Lee Morgan and Lois Christopher Morgan. He was a retired Pastor and member of the First Presbytery of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, serving on “The Minister and His Work Committee”.  He and his wife, Avanelle, attended Huntersville ARP church since his retirement. 

Pastor Morgan graduated with a degree in English from Furman University in 1949. He served in the pulpit for over sixty-five years, pastoring ten different congregations. He began his ministry at the age of sixteen, and touched many lives throughout his life. His passion for the Word emanated from every part of his life, and he instilled the love of Christ in his family, and everyone he knew. He loved to counsel other young ministers, and was always available to help others in need. Pastor Morgan was the example of love for all who knew him. He was an encouraging, comforting, and dependable servant of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Pastor Morgan was married to his wife for nearly sixty-seven years. Along with his wife he is survived by four children, daughter Dianne Basinger and husband Tony; daughter Debbie Hudspeth and husband David; daughter Denise Theiss and husband Ray; son Robert L. Morgan, Jr. and wife Jayne. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be greatly missed.
The body will lie in state from 10:30-11 AM Saturday, May 2 in the sanctuary prior to the funeral service. The funeral service will be at 11 AM at Huntersville Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. Burial will immediately follow in the church cemetery. A time of fellowship with friends is planned immediately following the services in the Huntersville ARP Family Life Center.
