Hough a cappella group scores

LADY HUSKIES STATE CHAMPS

March 6. The Women’s A Cappella–Lady Huskies Choir of Hough High School competed in the 5th Annual Metrographics Printing North Carolina High School A Cappella Competition presented by Liquid Fifth in Mars Hill and scored first overall in the statewide choral competition.

The is only in its second year of existence with choral director Heidi Hickox-Gordon at the helm.

The 17-member group was formed from the award-winning Hough Women’s Chamber group and this was their first state-wide competition. The 10th-12th graders competed against a cappella groups from across the state of North Carolina and were thrilled with a win in their first outing.

“This group has made great strides in the short time they have been together and I am so incredibly proud of these ladies,” said choral director Hickox-Gordon.

“They were up against other, very talented competitors and it is an outstanding accomplishment to earn the championship in their first competition.”
