Cornelius has a rich history of African-American life from the 1900s to now, centered largely on the Smithville community just east of I-77. The history will be honored at a Black History Month Celebration Saturday, Feb. 1 at Cornelius Town Hall.
The event, which runs from 1 pm to 3 pm, will include live performances, children’s activities and refreshments. This event is free and open to the public.
Works by artist Kevin Harris, on loan from Foster’s Frame & Art Gallery in Huntersville, will be on display all month long at Town Hall during business hours.
