Police charge student with misdemeanor possession of weapon at school

April 5. A Hough High student who apparently posted a disturbing video on Snapchat—causing fear and significant absenteeism today— has been charged with misdemeanor possession of a firearm on school grounds.

Police said the weapon was shown to “students in class.”

While  police said the social media post “was not threatening in nature, officers continued to investigate and learned” the student brought an “airsoft” gun to Hough High on Wednesday, April 3 and showed it in class.

Airsoft guns are a special type of very low-power smoothbore air gun designed to shoot non-metallic spherical projectiles often made of plastic or resin materials.

Officers with the Cornelius Police Department, Davidson Police Department and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Police Department investigated the student’s post on social media.

It included the words, “I will make you bleed.”

Cornelius Today spoke to parents who said their otherwise studious children asked to stay home today. The student parking lot was uncharacteristically empty this afternoon.

Although Cornelius Police released the student’s full name, Cornelius Today is not publishing it because he is a minor.
