Hough High attendance is down after social media scare

Empty parking spaces at Hough High School

April 5. Attendance is down considerably at Hough High School after a student posted on social media that “I will make you bleed,” apparently because of a name—a common first name from the Old Testament—he has been called.

”This is the warning, this is the only warning,” he said in a video on SnapChat.

The social media post circulated among students and many stayed home.

Principal Dr. Laura Rosenbach said Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools police identified and addressed the situation.

She sent this message to parents:

“Good morning Hough families. This is Dr. Laura Rosenbach. I wanted to let you know that I received information about an inappropriate social media post last night. CMS police and I have identified and addressed the situation. Please know safety is my top priority and take these incidents very seriously. I want to thank everyone who alerted us to this situation. Thank you and have a good day.”

The Town of Davidson posted this on Facebook: “The staff of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools W.A Hough High School, Cornelius Police Department and Davidson Police Department are investigating an incident involving a student’s post on social media. There is no threat to public safety and involved parties are cooperating in the investigation.”
