The Cornelius Town Board will conduct the second public hearing on a rezoning request which would permit the construction of six townhomes on Mulberry Street behind Food Lion during their meeting April 1. The first hearing was held in February and concerns were voiced by residents on the height of the proposed units and parking availability.
According to Town Planning Director Wayne Herron, the site was part of an original 1997 plan for the area which allowed for 11 units. However, that plan was never completed and the original permits have since expired. As a result, the zoning was changed to Town Center and does not allow townhomes in the proposed area..thus the need for a new rezoning. The applicant has reduced the number of units to be built to six, feeling that the original total of 11 from the 1997 proposal was too dense.
The board is also expected to consider adopting a resolution supporting state legislation designed to continue studying multiple cases of Ocular Melanoma in the Lake Norman area.
The meeting begins at 7 pm in Town Hall on Catawba Avenue.
