Dec. 6. By Dave Vieser. The Days Inn on Holiday Lane just east of I-77 may soon be demolished to make way for a new expanded offices for the State Employees Credit Union. Details of the plan are unfolding now. The parking lot had fewer than a dozen cars this morning. Out of 209 reviews on TripAvisor 59 percent of guests rated the inn “poor” or “terrible.”

Town officials said a complete demolition is coming. The site is across Holiday Lane from the now-closed Acropolis restaurant where a QuikTrip convenience store and gas station was planned.

“There were a few minor issues which need to be refined, but generally the reaction to the plan was positive,” said Mayor Pro Tem Michael Miltich.

SECU, which has not yet acquired the Days Inn property, plans a new 10,000 square foot building on the Days Inn site. The existing SECU office at the northwest corner of Catawba and Holiday Lane would be recycled for future use as another financial institution.

The Cornelius Days Inn has been for sale recently but due to the age and condition of the structure, no motel operators have expressed an interest in the facility.

According to Mecklenburg County Tax records, the motel was built in 1986 and has an appraised value of $2.3 million.

SECU is a state chartered credit union headquartered in Raleigh, and regulated under the authority of the Credit Union Division of the NC Department of Commerce. They have 256 offices throughout the state.
