One-Stop Voting, also known as early voting, gets under way Friday the 27th in Mecklenburg County, with Cornelius Town Hall and the North County Regional Library in Huntersville open for voters from Friday April 27 through Saturday May 5. The actual Primary Day is Tuesday May 8. Registered voters can cast their ballots on a limited number of candidates and most voters will be required to show a photo ID.
Both the Cornelius and Huntersville locations will be open for voting from 10 am to 7 pm weekdays through Friday May 4 and 10 am to 5 pm on Saturday April 28, as well as 1 pm to 4 pm on Sunday April 29. The last day of early voting is Saturday May 5, from 10 am to 1 pm.
Regular polling places will be open on Tuesday May 8 from 6:30 am to 7:30 pm.
DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY
County Commission: A total of seven candidates are seeking one of three places on the ballot. The candidates include incumbents Pat Cotham, Trevor Fuller, and Ella Scarborough, along with challengers Jamie Hildreth, Tigress Sydney Acute McDaniel, Ray McKinnon and Gerenda Davis.
Sheriff: Incumbent Irwin Carmichael is being challenged by Garry L McFadden and Antoine M Ensley.
District Attorney: Incumbent Spencer Merriweather is being challenged by Toussaint C Romain.
US House District 12: Incumbent Alma Adams is being challenged by Gabe Ortiz., 5-NC House District 98: Candidates are Branden Rosenlieb and Christy Clark. (Incumbent is Republican John Bradford)
REPUBLICAN PRIMARY
US House District 12: Candidates are Carl Perrson, Paul Wright and Paul Bonham. (Incumbent is Democrat Alma Adams).
Republicans can vote in the GOP primaries; Democrats in the Democratic contests and unaffiliated voters can vote in either primary. However, unaffiliated voters can only vote in one of the two primaries.
