Upcoming Events: April 19 – 29

The Cornelius PARC Dept.hosts the third annual Earth Day Celebration Saturday at Robbins Park. A free fishing event called Hooked on Cornelius is part of the celebration, but space is limited.
Young actors: register now for summer camps with Davidson Community Players, where you can explore movie and Broadway shows by learning theatre skills, comedy, music and dance, set design, costumes and more.

Don’t forget, start the weekend early with the Beach Bash at The Peninsula Yacht Club this Thursday night.
Thursday, April 19
Women’s Conference
The Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce Diversity Council will host the sixth annual Lake Norman women’s conference. The theme is “Truth, Courage and Empowerment: Don’t Be Silent.” 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at The Peninsula Club in Cornelius.
Beach Bash
Big Day at the Lake 2018 launches with Beach Bash. Enjoy music, refreshments, a raffle and a live auction. All proceeds benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Carolinas. 6 p.m. at The Peninsula Yacht Club in Cornelius.
The N.C. Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting regarding the proposed projects to widen U.S. 21 in Cornelius and Huntersville. 4-7 p.m. at Huntersville Town Hall.
Concert and Reading
Radney Foster will perform music and a reading from his newest creative endeavor, “For You to See the Stars.” 7-8 p.m. at Main Street Books in Davidson.
Friday, April 20
Highland dancing, bagpipe bands, highland athletics, kids’ zone, merchants, re-enactments, whiskey tastings, much more. April 20-22 at Historic Rural Hill in Huntersville.
The Davidson Community Players present the beloved tale of Neverland featuring Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, the Darling children, Captain Hook, and an engaging musical score. April 20-29 at Armour Street Theatre in Davidson.
Artists will display their work in Davidson’s establishments from Main Street to Circles @ 30. Visitors can ride a trolley to all stops for art, refreshments, music and more. 6-9 p.m. in Davidson.

Saturday, April 21
Athletic Event
Novant Health will host the “North Carolina High School Performance Combine,” where high school athletes will compete in the vertical jump, broad hop, agility test, short-distance races and more. 9 a.m. at Hough High School in Cornelius.
Cornelius PARC Department’s annual celebration offers free “green” activities for all ages, including crafts, tree planting demonstrations, nature walks, scavenger hunt, and the Hooked on Cornelius fishing event for kids. 10 a.m.-noon at Robbins Park in Cornelius.

MLB PitchHit and Run encourages youth participation and emphasizes the fun element of baseball and softball competition. The individual pitching, hitting and running champions, along with the all-around champion in each age group, will advance to next level of competition. Ages 7-14. 2 p.m. at McEver Field 2 in Davidson.
Chamber Musicians Competition
WDAV Classical Public Radio’s Young Chamber Musicians Competition welcomes four of the nation’s most talented ensembles, who will compete for cash prizes, a studio recording session and a paid performance during the 2018-19 Davidson College Concert Series. 3 p.m. at Davidson College.

The music ministry will share “Praise Him With Instruments,” an evening of sacred instrumental music by the church’s choirs, bells, chimes and orchestra. 6 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Mooresville.

The Lake Norman Covekeepers invite all interested residents for an insect field walk and moth night demonstration led by Natural Resources Coordinator Lenny Lampel. 7-9 p.m. at Cowan’s Ford Wildlife Refuge in Huntersville.
