Greenway ‘summit’ April 30

Residents of northern Mecklenburg County can weigh in on plans for greenways at the Northern Towns Greenways for Mecklenburg summit at 6 pm April 30 at D9 Brewing in Cornelius. The current Mecklenburg County Master Plan, approved in 2008, calls for 129 miles of paved greenway trails by 2018. There are currently 47 miles completed, with fewer than 10 miles of those trails in northern Mecklenburg County.

Presenters include Greenways for Mecklenburg, City of Cornelius Park and Recreation Dept., Town of Huntersville, Town of Davidson, City of Charlotte, Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Dept.

About three-quarters of residents polled in Mecklenburg County list greenways as their top recreational priority. Return on investment for a completed portion of Little Sugar Creek Greenway in Midtown is estimated to be $10 in economic development for every $1 spent.
