Sept. 20. By Dave Vieser. Sushi fans will be saddened to learn that one of Lake Norman’s oldest and best known Sushi restaurants, Sushi at the Lake, will not reopen their Cornelius eatery after a fire back in April. Their Mooresville facility on Bluefield Road remains open.
“During the past several weeks, the owners decided that it would be just too much to reopen in Cornelius” said Darrell Palasciano of the Shopping Center Group in Charlotte. The fire caused considerable interior damage and the premises was closed by the County Fire Marshal.
Sushi at the Lake had been open in Cornelius since 1998, and was well-known for their chefs who would cook food at the table in front of patrons, along with an impressive list of half price bottles of wine on certain evenings.
The listing for the Turnberry Place location describes the 4,200 square foot spot as being “in a Starbucks anchored multi tenant building in the heart of the Cornelius retail corridor with excellent frontage on West Catawba Avenue.”
Palasciano said the location doesn’t have to be a restaurant. “While Sushi at the Lake enjoyed many successful years at that spot, it would be ideally suited for retail as well.”
