James Ernest Self, Jr., 71 of Huntersville, NC passed away on July 10, 2017.

James was born in Charlotte on July 21, 1945 to James Ernest Self and Ila Rushing Self.

James is preceded in death by his father, James Ernest Self; wife, Marie Self; sons, Ronnie Merrell and Lee Self; and daughter-in-law, Sandi Merrell.

He is survived by his wife, Diann Self; mother, Ila Rushing Self; son, Andy Merrell (Connie); step-son, Tim Steele (Karen); grandchildren, Drew, Kevin, Connie Merrell, Amber Davis ( Christopher), Kayla Sinclair (Andrew), Jake Merrell (Virginia) Savannah Self, Kennedi Hewatt, Conner Steele and Reagan Steele; great – grandchildren, Jack and Julia Reece Davis, Wyatt Sinclair and Riley Merrell. He is also survived by his daughters-in-law, Lisa Puckett-Barnett and Mandy Self-Sparrow; Siblings, Ruth Millsap, Harold, Howard (Chicko), Bruce (Rosalee), Reba Jones (Mike), Barbara Beaken.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 pm on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home, Huntersville, NC.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, July 14, 2017 in the chapel at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home. Following the Service he will be laid to rest at Northlake Memorial Gardens in Huntersville, NC. Reception to follow at 1:00 pm at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 8600 Mt. Holly Huntersville Rd.
