A six-foot tall bronze of Cpl. Jerry K. Crump will be unveiled at the Veterans Monument at Rotary Plaza on July 4, at 10 a.m. The new Cornelius Veterans Memorial Statue, paid for American Legion Post 86, honors the Purple Heart and Congressional Medal of Honor recipient who was from Cornelius. Crump is one of only a few people in Mecklenburg County to receive this award. American Legion Post 86 Commander Mike Puckett will lead the ceremony that will include Lt. Gen. Thomas C. Waskow as keynote speaker.
