Sept. 10. The 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks will be remembered in North Meck, with special observances in Cornelius and Huntersville.
Cornelius
Various dignitaries will speak at the 9/11 Remembrance Vigil at Fire Station No. 1, including US Sen. Thom Tillis who is scheduled for 10:04 am. Solemn observances include a choir singing God Bless America, as well as bells tolling the jet crashes and tower collapses.
At 10:35 am a bell will memorialize Line of Duty deaths in the North Carolina Firefighting, Emergency Medical Services, and Police communities.
The ceremony ends at 10:36 with “Amazing Grace” by Mark Boesmiller.

Huntersville
Flags will fly in tribute to the victims of 9/11 at Veterans Park and Town Center Lawn in downtown Huntersville. From 8:46 am to 10:46 am, the town will host a moment of silence in remembrance of those who lost their lives and give thanks to those still serving us today. Click here for details.

No day has greater significance to the fire service than 9/11, when more than 340 firefighters died in the line of duty. Fire departments around the country will commemorate the milestone anniversary through special events and activities.
