A 5K Run & Walk on May 4 will benefit “Warrior Jace,” the five-year-old who was diagnosed with cancer last fall. His parents are law enforcement officers Jennifer and Eric Thompson.
Jennifer is a Cornelius Police captain, while husband Eric is a North Carolina Highway Patrol lieutenant. The Thompsons have massive medical expenses related to Jace’s care at a clinical trial program in Washington D.C.
The race starts at 6:30 p.m. at Westmoreland Athletic Complex on Westmoreland Road.
Event proceeds will go through the Top Deck Foundation to benefit Jace, who was diagnosed last October at the age of 4 with a rare and aggressive tumor near his brain stem.
Top Deck, a Cornelius-based non-profit, is dedicated to raising funds to support the morale and mission of Cornelius Police Department.
The race course will begin and end at Westmoreland Athletic Complex and wind through parts of the McDowell Creek Greenway, as well as trails around Robbins Park.
The family-friendly event is open to most running/walking levels.
The entry fee is $35 for runners and $30 for walkers.
