Nov. 19. Cornelius Police have released the names of two high school students involved in a fatal one-car crash Saturday evening on Bailey Road well east of the hairpin turn.

Police say Andres Morales, a student at Hopewell High, was killed. The driver, Grant Geis, is in critical condition at CMC Main. Police said the Hough High student was traveling east on Bailey Road when he lost control and collided rearward with a large tree. Speed was a factor, according to police.

There is a makeshift memorial at the tree—and lengthy skid marks to the west of the tree.

Both students are from Huntersville. The Cornelius Traffic Safety Unit is investigating the crash.
