Feb. 22. The Cornelius Board of Commissioners voted 3-2 to hold off on any decision regarding changes to the town’s land development code, specifically an increase in the size of the street landscape buffer required for new projects.
“This would have been the final step in a multi-year update to our code,” said Town Planning Director Wayne Herron. “Over the last four years, the town’s land development code advisory board has discussed the existing 1996 code section by section and chapter by chapter.”
However, Joe Padilla, executive director of the Real Estate and Building Industry Coalition, requested that the board delay implementation of the new code for a month so he could review the changes in greater detail. “We were a little confused about the last round of changes and how that might impact small business owners.”
Commissioners Michael Miltich, Kurt Nass and Thurman Ross voted in favor of continuing the hearing until the meeting of March 19
Also at Monday’s meeting, the board:
- Approved an easement agreement with Charlotte Water so the utility can construct a 24-inch water main through the Antiquity Greenway parcel which is owned by the town. Under the terms of the agreement, the water main must be completed by June 30.
- Aappointed Andrew Heywood to fill the unexpired term on the PARC Commission. The current term expires January 2020. Heywood was recommended unanimously by the PARC Commission at their February meeting.
