You-know-what happened, but it’s over

The no-swimming advisory that was issued on Friday  for a cove near Bethel Church and Chapel Point Lane has been lifted. The incident involved approximately 395 gallons of sewage discharged into the cove from a broken sewer line at 20220 Bethel Church Road when a sewer line break was caused by underground boring activities. Water samples collected in the area of the spill by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services’ staff reveal that bacteria counts are within safe limits, therefore the swimming advisory has been lifted. Rusty Rozzelle, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services’ Water Quality Program Manager, said the advisories are standard procedure. “It was necessary to close the area to recreation because of the potential risk to human health,” said Rozzelle. No Swimming Advisory Map 6-2-2017
