Will buffer in landscape plans help relieve development headaches?

Cornelius Commissioners will conduct a public hearing on proposed changes to the town’s land development code. The major change would be an increase in the street landscape buffer required for new projects within the town, potentially decreasing the intrusiveness of new development

“We’ve been working on proposed changes to the land development code for several months” said Planning Director Wayne Herron, “and the only item under consideration at the moment is an update to the street landscape buffer. The Planning Board has unanimously recommended the changes under consideration.”

The major change would be an increase in the street landscape buffer zone from 10 to 15 feet. Other changes would impact on the type and density of trees and shrubbery which can be used.

The commissioners are also expected to consider approving an easement agreement with Charlotte Water so the utility can construct a 24-inch water main through the Antiquity Greenway parcel which is owned by the town.

The town board meeting begins at 7 pm, in Town Hall on Catawba Avenue.
