Upcoming Events: November 23 – December 3

Give back this weekend while checking out classic cars. The fifth annual AmeriCarna LIVE car show is Saturday at the Ingersoll Rand campus in Davidson. Proceeds will support the IGNITE Community Center for young adults with Asperger’s Syndrome or high-functioning autism. Then on Saturday night, welcome the Christmas season at Light Up Cornelius, where you’ll enjoy holiday songs by local performers, carriage rides, children’s games, a train display, and St. Nick himself!
Thursday, Nov. 23
Lake Norman Turkey Trot
Family-friendly run on Thanksgiving morning. 5K, 10K and Distance Dare races. Proceeds go to the Green Beret Foundation. 7 a.m. at Gold’s Gym in Cornelius.
Speedway Christmas
See more than three million lights along a drive-through course, visit the Bethlehem village, take photos with Santa, more. Christmas movies will be shown on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. Nov. 19-Dec. 30 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Friday, Nov. 24
Living History Event
“One Hundred Years of Christmas.” See the circa-1800 plantation home and buildings decorated in period holiday trim, historical demonstrations. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 24-25 at Historic Latta Plantation in Huntersville.
Photos With Santa
Noon-6 p.m. at Birkdale Village in Huntersville.
Christmas Light Show
Zootastic Park’s annual Christmas Wonderland of Lights features more than 3 million lights set to music along a two-mile drive. Families will also enjoy a visit with Santa, pony rides, petting zoo, concessions, marshmallow roasting and more. Nightly through Jan. 1 at Zootastic Park in Troutman.
Saturday, Nov. 25
Car Show
Ray Evernham’s fifth annual AmeriCarna LIVE car show will support the IGNITE Community Center for young adults with high-functioning autism or Asperger’s Syndrome. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Ingersoll Rand in Davidson.

Monday, Nov. 27
Santa’s Mailbox
Drop a letter off at the Center’s mailbox to the North Pole and Santa will respond! All letters must include a self-addressed and stamped envelope in order to receive a response. Nov. 27-Dec. 15 at the Cornelius Arts Center.
Holiday Light Spectacular
An orchestrated light show that includes more than 115,000 lights set to music. Nightly through late December in downtown Mooresville.
Tuesday, Nov. 28
Davidson Holiday Gala
Join the Davidson College choirs, orchestra, jazz band and soloists, Dance Davidson and special guests for the sights and sounds of the holiday season. 7:30 p.m. Nov. 27-28 in the Duke Family Performance Hall at Davidson College.
Art Exhibit
Bob Trotman’s “Business as Usual” reflects the implacable force of profit-making which lies at the heart of corporate culture and much government policy. The exhibit will be open through Dec. 8 at the Van Every Gallery at Davidson College.

Active Reading Workshop
Bring your preschooler and learn fun ideas and activities that you can use to support early literacy at home. Registration required. 10-11 a.m. at the Cornelius Branch Library.
Sensory Santa
Holiday-themed evening featuring a specially-trained Santa who understands how to interact with individuals who have Autism Spectrum Disorder, giving families the opportunity to share special holiday moments without long lines, bright lights and loud noises. 6:30 p.m. at Discovery Place KIDS in Huntersville.
Thursday, Nov. 30
Community Nativity Festival
See nativities from around the world, make crafts, do a scavenger hunt, dress up in nativity costumes and enjoy musical performances by local school and church groups. 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Nov. 30-Dec. 2 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Huntersville.

Bonsai Exhibition
Bonsai artists from all over the country will display their trees. Demonstrations and supplies will be available. Free admission and parking. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Dec. 2 and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Dec. 3 at the North Carolina Research Campus in Kannapolis.
A Huntersville Christmas
Enjoy a winter wonderland with carolers, ice carving, a live nativity, holiday characters, much more. 2-8 p.m. at the Huntersville Town Center.
A Candlelight Christmas
Stroll the property to see vignettes of historical holiday celebrations and a live nativity featuring the Latta farm animals. 6-9 p.m. at Historic Latta Plantation in Huntersville.
Christmas Boat Parade

Fun-filled afternoon with live bands, Christmas carols, food trucks, craft beer, kids’ activities and a visit from Santa. Noon-6 p.m. at Oak Street Mill in Cornelius.
Vespers Service
Service of lessons and carols. Davidson College Chorale and campus leaders reflect on the true meaning of the holiday season, featuring Davidson’s Pro-Arte Brass and the church handbell ensemble. 7:30 p.m. at Davidson College Presbyterian Church.
