Upcoming Events: June 8 – 18

Local VCPs—very caring people—will pour drinks at the eighth annual Celebrity Bartending fundraiser tonight at Alton’s Kitchen and Cocktails. Commissioner Pat Cotham will duel for tips with Commissioner Jim Puckett, Woody Washam competes against Rusty Knox. Other familiar faces behind the bar include Nettie Reeves, Laura Engel, Thurman Ross and Shelley Johnson.

 

Thursday, June 8
A new topic will be presented each month. Space limited. 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at Summit Place of Mooresville.
Local government representatives, business people and others will duel for tips at the Eighth Annual Celebrity Bartending event for Big Day at the Lake to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Charlotte. 5:30 p.m. at Alton’s Kitchen and Cocktails in Cornelius.
Free live weekly concerts all spring and summer! This week, Heart and Led Zeppelin tribute band Heart Breaker will perform. 5-9 p.m. at LangTree Lake Norman in Mooresville.
The women of Chickspeare will bring Shakespeare and vintage television together in “The Comedy of Errors.” June 8-11 at The Warehouse Performing Arts Center in Cornelius.

Book Signing
Acclaimed novelist Gail Godwin will read and sign copies of her latest book, “Grief Cottage.” Noon-2 p.m. at Main Street Books in Davidson.
Vintage Market Days
Upscale vintage-inspired market featuring original art, antiques, clothing, jewelry, home decor, outdoor furnishings, seasonal plants and more. June 9-11 at Merino’s Mill in Mooresville.
Live music, local craft beer and wine, food trucks, local art and crafts, art demonstrations and kids’ activities. 6-10 p.m. at Oak Street Mill in Cornelius.
Mingling on the Greens series is held 7-9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 4-6 p.m. Sundays at Birkdale Village in Huntersville.
Saturday, June 10
Inaugural 5K and 10K featuring racers wearing gorilla gear or even dressed as bananas! A portion of proceeds go to local charities. 7:30 a.m. at Bayne Brewing Company in Cornelius.
Local produce, baked goods and the Downtown Market Event Series. 8 a.m.-noon Saturdays at Huntersville Elementary School.
Deluxe party bus will travel to four local distilleries. Lunch included. 10:30 a.m.-6 p.m. at Lake Town Tavern in Cornelius.
Author Bren McClain will read and sign copies of her debut novel, “One Good Mama Bone.” 4 p.m. at Main Street Books in Davidson.
Mezzo soprano Becky Robinson will perform with her parents, violinist Mary Kay Robinson and oboist Joseph Robinson along with pianist Wade Dingman. 4 p.m. at Davidson College Presbyterian Church.

Have dirty fun, make friends and support Habitat for Humanity. 1 p.m. at Bryton Development in Huntersville.
The Band of Oz will perform at 6 p.m. on the Davidson Town Green.

Start summer break with children’s rock band Big Bang Boom, literacy activities and a food truck. 10 a.m.-noon at the Cornelius Branch Library.

Kids in rising grades 3-5 invited to solve STEM challenges through teamwork. 2-3 p.m. at the Cornelius Branch Library.

Farm-to-Table Dinner Fundraiser 6-8 p.m. at Rescue Ranch in Statesville.

Thursday, June 15

Zac Gordon, Kannapolis planning director and newly-elected NC 73 COP chair, will join Charles Knox with the Knox Group as they discuss development and plans along the NC 73 Corridor and the work of the Council of Planning. 8:30 a.m. at the Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce in Cornelius.
