Town Board public hearing on landscape buffers tonight

Feb. 19. The Cornelius Town Board will conduct a public hearing tonight on proposed changes to the town’s land development code. The principal change would be an increase in the street landscape buffer required for new projects within the town.

“Monday will actually be the final step in a four-year process to update the town’s existing code adopted in 1996,” said Planning Director Wayne Herron. “The last item under consideration is an update to the street landscape buffer regulations. The Planning Board has unanimously recommended the changes under consideration.”

The major change would be an increase in the street landscape buffer zone from 10 to 15 feet. Other changes would impact on the type and density of trees and shrubbery which can be used.

The commissioners are also expected to consider approving an easement agreement with Charlotte Water so the utility can construct a 24″ water main through the Antiquity Greenway parcel which is owned by the town.

The town board meeting begins at 7 pm, in Town Hall on Catawba Avenue.
