Jan. 29. Cornelius Commissioners will consider retaining Wirth and Associates of Charlotte as design consultant for the McDowell Creek Greenway project at their meeting Monday Feb. 2nd. The design portion of the contract is $132,000.

“The McDowell Creek Greenway from Westmorland Road to Catawba Avenue is one of our authorized park projects to be financed by the 2013 bonds approved by our residents,” said Parks Director Troy Fitzsimmons. “This agreement will provide design services for the 1.6 miles of McDowell greenway trail.”

Also at Monday’s meeting, the commissioners are expected to approve an agreement between the town and the Kiwanis Club of Lake Norman for donations and naming rights at the Smithville Park Splash Pad. The town has agreed to front all construction costs up to $150,000 while the Kiwanis Club will donate a minimum of $30,000 over a three year period.

The town board meeting begins at 7 pm, in Town Hall on Catawba Avenue.
