At their Monday May 15 meeting, Cornelius commissioners are expected to consider a series of new regulations on outdoor storage which comes to the board with a 6-1 denial recommendation from the Planning Board. The town’s Land Development Code Advisory Board had been reviewing the outdoor storage rules and recommended new wording to better define outdoor storage and its location for both residential and commercial properties. However, it did not sit well with the planning board.

“They had concerns about the application of the new regulations over lakefront property, ” said Cornelius Planning Director Wayne Herron. “They wondered aloud whether the storage recommended in the new rules would actually be better or worse…essentially asking whether to permit storage in the front yard or on the lakefront.”

If you want to beach about Ramsey Creek Park, Monday is the time to do it. Mecklenburg County Park Director Jim Garges and staff will update the town on the 2017 Ramsey Creek beach season.

The outdoor storage issue is interesting. LDCAB members said some people specifically look to buy in non-HOA regulated areas and that the town should not be increasing restrictions.

The commissioners had previously told planners to submit the changes for consideration. It means they will need to decide whether to adopt the changes or side with the concerns expressed by the Planning Board Members.

Also at Monday’s meeting, the town board will hold a public hearing on the proposed $22.5 million budget for the fiscal year starting July 1. The spending plan would keep the town’s tax rate at 25.5 cents/$100 assessed value. It appears to be heading toward a thumbs up in time for the new budget year July 1.
