Stop signs may stop cut-through traffic

May 26. A beautiful new neighborhood with a back-door connection to Birkdale has become a cut-through for anyone and everyone interested in shopping. The Town of Cornelius will erect stop signs.

Jeanne and Lin Snowa said cut-through drivers are speeding and running through stop signs to and from Birkdale in spite of “kids on the street.” According to the Snowas, there’s not a homeowners association in the neighborhood, the tried and true way to get the town’s attention. But the Snowas did get the town’s attention.

“We are working with the developers to get those installed,” said Tyler Beardsley, project manager for the Town of Cornelius. “The developer is ordering two of the decorative poles and when those are delivered the signs will be installed.”
