Rotary golf event, cruise benefits cancer research, Big Day at the Lake

The Rotary Club where the late Lauren Kimsey was a member will hold a golf tournament and cruise in her honor at The Peninsula Club April 17. Kimsey, a Cornelius resident, passed away last fall after a six-year battle with sinovial sarcoma, a rare form of cancer. Kimsey, 39, was a faithful member of the North Meck Rotary which meets Wednesday at noon at The Peninsula Club.

Proceeds from the event benefit Big Day at the Lake and The Lauren Marie Kimsey Foundation for Synovial Sarcoma.

The tournament begins with sign in from 10:30 am to 11:30 amand a shot gun start at 12 noon. Registration includes a goody bag, a hot dog/hamburger lunch, on course beverages and 18 holes of golf with golf cart.

A putting contest with a $5,000 prize is open to all golfers and non golfers. Golf prizes and awards will be given out aboard Yachta Yachta Yachta,, a luxury houseboat.

The one-hour cruise departs at 4 pm and includes dinner.

Individual golfers are $125; foursomes are $500. The cruise only is $50.
