Mary Frances Price Cochrane McHargue (AKA “Momma”, “Maw Maw”, and “Maw Maw the Great”, 96, of Concord, NC, passed away in her home on June 28, 2016 at 11:55 p.m. comforted by family.  Frances was born on July 18, 1919 to the late Harry Carroll Price and Iva Agnes Price in Forest City, NC and was one of nine children.

Frances was preceded in death by her siblings; Harry “Bud” Price, David Lafayette Price, William “Bill” Walter Price, Elizabeth Susan Price, Iva Agnes Sparks, and Martha Blackstock. Her surviving sisters include Mildred Catherine Barnwell and Barbara Ann “Bobbie” Leagon.  On June 28th, 1938, Frances married Charles Herbert Cochrane at the age of 18. She wanted a big family and together they created a legacy of their own during their 35 years of marriage. She was preceded in death by two of her sons, Charles H. Cochrane, Jr. (Patricia) of Charlotte, NC, and Steven B. Cochrane of Mt. Pleasant, NC.  Her surviving children include; Mary Jo Jones (Everette) of Mint Hill, NC, Alice Sue Harris (Bob) of Mt. Pleasant, NC, Jackie Ray Cochrane (Chyrl) of Huntersville, NC, and Cindy June Stack (Jeff AKA “Precious”) of Concord, NC.

Frances lost her husband, Herb, on August 3, 1973. In 1979, she married William Lamar “Mack” McHargue who preceded her in death on December 3, 2004 after being married for 25 years. With him, she was able to travel the world and see things and places she would have never been able to see. One of her favorite and most talked about destinations was the Holy Land.

Frances was Maw Maw to eighteen grandchildren and their spouses, which include; Wayne Cochrane, Kevin Cochrane (Sherry), Jason Cochrane (Ashlyn), Melissa Matlak, Joe Matlak, Brett Jones (Julie), Judy Strickland (Bruce), Sheila SciaScia (Glenn), Brandi Doty (Scott), Shanna Bering (Eric), Libby Gant (Eric), Stephanie Turner (Bryan), Aaron Cochrane, Amanda Hand, Danielle Mauldin (Randy), Travis Linker (Sarah), Morgan Stack, and Haley Stack. Frances was “Maw Maw the Great” to thirty great grandchildren and their spouses, which include; Ryan Cochrane (Hannah), Sean Cochrane, Alex Schmidt, Lauren Schmidt, Wyatt Schmidt, Luka Matlak, Noah Jones, Zeke Jones, William Taylor, Gracie Strickland, Sammy Strickland (Whitney), Brucie Strickland Jr., Michael Ramsey (Lindsey), Lauren Ramsey, Renee Ramsey, Vinny SciaScia, Jonas Doty, Brendan Doty, Jordyn Beiring, Devin Beiring, Zachary Gant, Luke Gant, Robbie Gant, Haley Turner, Harrison Turner, Brandon Haynes, Christian Dobson, Madison Mauldin, Hope Linker, and Michael Linker II. She also had one great-great grandchild, Jude Strickland.

Frances was a member of Brookdale Baptist Church in Kannapolis, NC. She loved to sew and cook. She loved making dolls for her grandchildren up until she was no longer able to do so. Holidays were festive, crowded with family, and the food she cooked was plentiful. She loved her family more than anything else in this world and will always be watching them from heaven. “Don’t cry for me. Well you can cry if you want to, but do it for yourself for I am going home.”

Her visitation will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at Brookdale Baptist Church at 2511 South Ridge Avenue, Kannapolis, NC at 10:00 a.m. and the service will be held at 11:00 a.m.Immediately following the service, she will be buried at Prosperity PCA Church on 5533 Prosperity Church Road, Charlotte, NC.  Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home is assisting the family.
