Jetton Road study at Town Board Monday

This coming Monday night’s Cornelius Town Board meeting will include an update on the traffic study for Jetton Road at the West Catawba Avenue intersection. The meeting Feb. 6 begins at 7 pm in Town Hall.

The $11,400 safety study was commissioned jointly by the Town and the State DOT to identity methods of eliminating traffic hazards on Jetton Road between West Catawba and Charlestown Lane—a stretch where there have been numerous accidents. On Dec. 20 over 80 residents gathered at The Peninsula Club to review the options raised by the study, which was prepared by the WSP/Parsons Brinckerhoff Engineering Firm.

This section of Jetton has a number of curb cuts and turns which permit motorists to reach and/or exit Harris Teeter, Wells Fargo, Brooklyn South and other nearby retailers.

The study had originally suggested a partially closed median at the intersection of Old Jetton and Jetton Roads, and erecting a roundabout at the intersection of Charlestown Lane and Jetton Road.

Also at Monday’s meeting, the commissioners are expected to consider renaming North Beatties Ford Road as Lakehouse Pointe Drive in order to eliminate confusion with Beatties Ford Road which runs from Hwy. 73 south into Charlotte.
