Holy Week under way, Passover begins this evening

April 9. It looks like a perfect week, weather-wise, for Holy Week. Passover gets under way tonight and goes until April 18. Easter observations began Saturday, with egg hunts and an appearance by the Easter Bunny himself at the town’s Hop Into Spring event at Robbins Park.

Hundreds of parents and children turned out for an Easter Egg Hunt at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Saturday morning, as well as Robbins Park on Saturday afternoon where there was a bounce house, face painting and chats with a very big bunny.

Temple Kol Tikvah in Davidson is holding a Passover Festival service tomorrow at 10:30 am. Meanwhile, churches like First Baptist Church of Cornelius are holding Passover Seder meals—theirs is this Thursday.

Check your chuch’s web site for special services this week, including Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, as well as Easter Sunrise (not all do them). The sunrise is at 6:48 am on Easter Sunday.

On the intensely practical side of things, traffic is lighter than usual on I-77.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools are out; kids go back to school April 17.

BTW, there’s only a 30 percent chance of showers on Wednesday, with plenty of sun before and after. Good Friday, Saturday and Easter Sunday will be sunny and in the 70s.
