Jan. 13. A 13-year-old from Cornelius will be on national TV Monday, playing football in the Dallas Cowboys stadium. George Kalos is the running back for the Team USA National Football at 11 am on ESPN3 and the USA Football website.

George is the son of Christine and Artie Kalos, who live on Coachman’s Wood Lane, and plays for Southlake Christian School where he also plays lacrosse. He was awarded Southlake’s Scholar-Athlete Award this year for Middle School Football.

The Kalos family has lived in Cornelius for 11 years, and North Carolina for 16 years, having moved here from Boston in 2000.

The game is called “Stars vs. Stripes.” The Team USA organization picks two American national teams to play each other.  George will be No. 22 on Stripes.

George was selected from among 10,000 middle schoolers across the country to play on one of the middle school-aged teams. He got Southlake’s Scholar-Athlete Award this year for Middle School Football. This past summer, George was also named an FBU (Football University) All-American running back at their Top Gun camp in South Carolina.

U.S. National Team alumni include Panthers wide receiver Devin Funchess and quarterback Jameis Winston with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

USA Football is the national governing body for amateur football in the United States. It is an independent non-profit based in Indianapolis. It holds more than 100 training events every year and provides education programs for coaches and game officials, as well as skill development for young players and support for volunteer youth coach background checks.

USA Football was endowed by the National Football League and the National Football League Players Association in 2002. It does not operate leagues or individual teams.
